New Community Facilities for Horninglow

The Red Lion pub, on the corner of Rolleston Road and Horninglow Road North, Burton on Trent, has been purchased by the St. John’s Church Hall Charity.

A new charity, Red Lion House Charity, was constituted in November 2015 to manage the development and management of a new community centre.

There will be three meeting rooms of different capacity, a kitchen serving direct into the large meeting room, toilets and storage space.

There was a starting fund from the sale of the old church hall and associated lands, and work started on Red Lion House in February 2017

Funding has recently been obtained from the National Lottery Community Fund, Veolia Landfill tax fund and Burton Consolidated Charities to help complete the first phase of the project. The ground floor should be ready for use by the end of this year.

The final part of the scheme to open up the first floor will start as soon as money is available. This will include other meeting rooms, smaller office type space, more toilets and a small kitchenette. An essential part of this

will be the provision of a lift to ensure that the whole building is open to all users. The trustees of the charity are still looking at possible sources of funding for this.
